An Hour Or Two In The Forest

Thetford Forest - Saturday 27th September

We had to get some shopping so it was off to Thetford and then on the way back we went to our favourite triangle of the forest.

We began at the range gates but the afternoon shadows were now quite long and what sunshine there was, was high up in the trees. We saw a few Dragonflies, mainly Darters and all females, a Robin and a cock Pheasant. I learnt a new word today "Odeing." Do you know what it means? Answer at the end of the blog entry.

As we moved down the road, a Muntjac hind crossed the road in front of us. Pulling into another spot we could hear birds but couldn't see them. Again there were several Darters about but I think only one of them was a male, his red body very faded. There were several Grass Spiders on the nettle and I'm sure I could hear some chomping in the undergrowth next to where we were parked. That was it short but always pleasant to be out.

Answer: Odeing is Dragonfly watching so called because Dragonflies are of the order Odonata.

Keep your eyes peeled and good spotting.
