At Home - Saturday 6th September

The reason I mentioned this post in the last post was because that over the last three weeks we've been raising some Small Tortoiseshell Caterpillars. We haven't been too successful this time because all but one of them died. However, today we released the lone survivor and it was strange that just now (11th September) one was in the room with me. Could it have been the one we released or one that somehow escaped without us noticing or just a mere coincidence? We'll never know. We did however, get a good video of the survivor pupating from a caterpillar into a Chrysalis which is on our YouTube Channel.

Jan found another Caterpillar in the garden today, this was from The Vapourer Moth a rather beautiful Caterpillar.

When you see something like this it makes you wonder about the power and beauty of Nature, it is like a work of art. There is a video of the Caterpillar on our YouTube Channel.

Not to be outdone our Son and Daughter in Law found 5 Elephant Hawk Moth Caterpillars on their Rosebay Willow Herb. Some years ago we raised one of these Caterpillars to the adult Moth before releasing it.
