8th Day Of Our Island Adventure

Thursday 6th November 2014

I was up about 2.30am. I thought I would sit in the conservatory from about 4am to see if I could see anything but as soon as I opened the door I could tell it would be a waste of time. The wind and the rain were lashing it down. Today, is going to be very different from yesterday!

I sat in the conservatory from about 7.30am, if anything the wind and rain have got worse and I think this is it for the day. The tide is now going out but we can see vey little in the conservatory. Even the small birds have been reluctant to get their feed from the front wall. So far only a Robin, Dunnock and Chaffinch have braved the weather.

Jan tells me the 5pm ferry has been cancelled! The view from the conservatory is very different today.

This is our last full day on Mull. We went into Craignure to get a ferry ticket for tomorrow but their phones and internet were down so we had to go to Tobermory. The rivers are really swollen and there was some evidence of flooding and the forecast is for worse to come.

We've decided to catch the ferry to Oban rather than go via Fishnish and Lochaline. Although it is more expensive it leaves us with less of journey tomorrow to Berwick Upon Tweed where we are booked into a Travelodge for the night. We managed to get a ticket in Tobermory, there were 12 places left on the ferry.

There is a Home Chocolate Shop in Tobermory so of course we had to visit that to buy a few gifts and have a coffee.

On the way back we saw one very bedraggled Buzzard and a Heron. We stopped at Fishnish to see if we could get one last chance to see another Otter but the conditions were so awful that it was very difficult to see anything. However, we did see 2 Harbour Seals and 11 Cormorants.

We then returned home to do some packing and prepare to leave this beautiful Island.

Remember keep your eyes peeled and good spotting.
