Standing Stone Thompson Water

Update To Wednesday 21st January 2015 Entry & Asteroid Sighting

Jan has been doing some detective work regarding the Standing Stone we saw near Thompson Water on Wednesday.

The stone is part of a series of five stones on the Peddars Way footpath. Full details can be found on this website:

Its purpose is described by Hugh Lupton, a Storyteller:

“As you walk the Peddars Way you find yourself becoming more and more aware of all the others who have trodden the same ground, whether they be Stone Age hunters, Roman soldiers, Saxon settlers or Medieval pilgrims.

But remember that you, walking in your time, are as much a part of everything that surrounds you as any other traveller has been.

All the past that has led to your moment in time is held like a great secret in the landscape that surrounds you."

The above site also carries the inscription that is written on the stone we saw:

The footprint of our ancestors

Familiar as our own faces

Remote as fossils

Written on clay

And washed away

Over & over

Over and over

Tomorrow, Monday 26th January 2015 there is an Asteroid (2004 BL86) passing close to the earth, well to be precise 3 times the distance between the Earth and the Moon. It can’t be seen at its nearest point which occurs at 4.30pm GMT in the Northern Hemisphere but weather permitting it may be seen later as it climbs towards Jupiter, however you will need a telescope or powerful binoculars to see it.

Full details can be found here:

Keep your eyes peeled and good spotting.
