Exciting Morning In The Garden

Our Garden in Watton – Monday 9th February

It’s 7.45am and I’m busy updating the blog. I just noticed a Goldfinch on one of the feeders and this was quickly followed by 2 Great Tits and then 2 Long Tailed Tits. Nothing unusual, we’ve had them all in the garden before, so why all the excitement?

Long Tailed Tits

Since last Summer we’ve had a large number of House Sparrows who feed in the garden they sometimes number up to 30 and since they’ve been coming they have rather taken over the garden. Not that I’m complaining, a couple of readers of this blog, one in Devon and one in Lincolnshire tell me that they no longer have any House Sparrows, they have disappeared from their locality. The House Sparrows can be a bit argumentative and take over the feeders and consequently we don’t get as much variety in the garden as we used to.

So I’m rather glad to see that some of the other birds have put in an appearance today.

Quiz Question

Apart from the fact that one of them has two words in its name which of the following is the odd one out? Magpie, Mallow, Mullein, Redshank, Viper’s Bugloss?

Answer in a couple of weeks. Keep your eyes peeled and good spotting.
