I've just had one of those experiences that make you shiver with excitement. I was processing a video on my computer when I heard a noise in the garden. My first thought was it was a pesky cat coming over the gate so I got up to shoo him off when I found myself looking into the eyes of a male Sparrowhawk sitting on one of our garden chairs no more than a metre from me. He took one look at me and was off. He hadn't caught anything but was obviously hoping to avail himself with one of the many House Sparrows that feed in our garden.
Live Update 8.40am: Although it's not a first for our garden, it is the first time I've seen them in our garden this year, a pair of Reed Buntings.
