Salthouse Heath - Friday 17th April 2015
I reported in this blog that on Friday we saw 12 Curlews fly over. At the time we discussed whether they might be Whimbrels on their migration further North but as we only caught a glimpse of them we recorded them as Curlews. After reading the Cley Bird Club sightings today it was reported that on Friday about the time we saw the birds there was a sighting of a group of Whimbrels flying inland so these were probably the same birds.
The collective nouns used for Whimbrels include: Fling, bind, time-step and contradiction. I include the following useful guide from Photoslides as a help in identifying these birds.
Whimbrel/Curlew
Keep your eyes peeled and good spotting.
