SORRY FOR THE LATENESS OF THESE UPDATES IT'S BEEN A BUSY WEEK
Willows’s Walks – Part 3
Frost’s Common – Monday 25th May 2015
Our final
outing with Willow before she returned home. We left home at 8am and it was a
lovely clear blue sky with a light breeze and a temperature of 11˚C.
Jan took
Willow for her walk while I remained in the car. There was plenty of birdsong
but I only caught fleeting glimpses of birds dashing here and there. I tried to
get a recording of the ambient sounds but unfortunately the car park here is
right next to the road so although the traffic was light the recording was
punctuated every now and again by the sound of traffic.
Jan had more
luck on her walk seeing a female Cuckoo and hearing the lesser heard bubbling
answering call that the female makes to answer the male’s song. I was quite jealous
of Jan as Frost’s Common looks a very birdy place if you can get there before
the dog walkers that is.

Willow’s Walks – Part 2
Peddars Way – Merton – Sunday 24th May 2015
Abundant Insect Life
We left home
at 6.15pm; The weather had brightened up during the day and it was now clear
with a light breeze and the temperature was 17˚C.
I stayed in
the car while Jan took Willow along a part of Peddars Way at Merton. At the car
it was quite busy with a lot of small birds but I did see a Buzzard in the
distance over the forest.
Jan mainly
saw Corvids and Wood Pigeons on her walk but we both noticed the tremendous
amount of insect life there was.
We did spend
a little time parked outside the Village Hall in Merton hoping to catch sight
of the Tree Sparrows that reside in that area. Although we saw a few birds
which may well have been Tree Sparrows we never got a long enough look at them to
identify them properly, so that will have to wait for another time.
We returned
home at 7pm.

We left home
at 7.45am; it was overcast with bright spells and a light wind. The temperature
was 11˚C rising to 14˚C. We returned home at 8.30am.
As usual Jan
took Willow for her walk while I remained in the car. I didn’t see anything but
Jan saw and heard a Chiffchaff and a Jay. We both heard a Cuckoo but it was a
long way off.
