Mull Mystery Bird Finally Solved

On Tuesday 4th November we saw a bird on Loch Spelve on the Isle of Mull that we couldn't positively identify. I think we've now solved that problem; we sort of came to an agreement that it was a Grey Phalarope but I have to admit I wasn't entirely happy with that.

Well yesterday I was just reading through some of the sightings for May on the Mull Birds site (mainly because I'd just booked another week on Mull for next May) when I saw a picture of a Black Guillemot. Not the immediate choice of a whitish bird that we'd seen with a nearly jet black bird, but what struck me immediately was the webbed feet that were a brilliant red, exactly the same as the bird we'd seen. I then went and did some research and I found a video of a 1st Winter bird and there it was, exactly the same as the bird we'd seen on Loch Spelve! A first Winter Black Guillemot, now I am looking forward even more to going back to Mull in May 2015 to see if we can see an adult bird.

1st Winter Black Guillemot

So that's the good news now for the bad news. I'm still having problems with iMovie 11, we think it is something to do with the codecs but I don't know how to solve it so I think I'm going to have to bite the bullet and use another video editing programme. So it will mean deleting all the duff videos on YouTube and buying a new programme! The programme of choice would be Apple's Final Cut Pro but at £200 that is out of the question so I'll probablly try the Wondershare Programme which at £26 is more affordable.

Anyway, keep your eyes peeled and good spotting, wherever you are.
